Beginning this summer of 2024 we started hosting an online space for knowledge sharing and community building between members of our different organizations under the name of IMMR Forum. One of our volunteer working groups came up with this idea that has gathered many of us already on more than 7 online meetings full of interesting ideas and people.
We first delved into the concept of Sovereign Money and in what ways it is different to other money reform proposals out there. We realized that for many of us creating money as an asset in itself by a public institution and for the public good is something important. Later we covered some of the design principles of a monetary system with the help of our friend Sam Hummel that created a beautiful presentation and a survey that guided us through this uncharted territory. We realized that even amongst ourselves there are many different preferences when it comes to our ideal monetary system. We differed on our ideas about who should be the institution in charge of creating the money, by which kind of informed rules should it be done, what causes inflation, how to deal with exchange rates between currencies, the degree of tolerance we have with private money forms or how is new money entering circulation (to name a few).
We thought it needed a working group devoted to explore many of such topics in depth, especially trying to share and understand together the many different proposals each of our members bring to the table and their subtle but important differences.
But we don’t want to focus on theory only. We want that this exchange of ideas help us to be more effective in our campaigning efforts so that everybody understands the problems with our current monetary system and the benefits of the alternative. Meeting each other not only gives us a sense of community and new energy and motivation to pursue with this huge task but more so it helps us to be more open to new ideas and have more clarity of thought when it comes to share our proposal with others. We created a space for a diversity of thinking to be recognized and to still find common causes in our differences.
So next event, Tuesday November 12th 2024 at 3pm CET we’ll have the chance to share what has worked the best to pursue our goals by having someone from our most successful organizations sharing what has worked best for them in terms of reach and funding strategies. And we will also have the chance to talk about our own failures.
So if you are interested on joining this and future IMMR Forums fill the form below and we’ll add you to our email list where you’ll receive invitations for registration.
